Upload, download or reset a world

The world lives in a folder in the server’s files, named world unless you changed level-name in server.properties. On Paper, Purpur and Leaf, the Nether and the End have their own folders: world_nether and world_the_end.

Your singleplayer worlds are in the saves folder of your Minecraft folder. Each world is a folder with a level.dat file in it.

  1. On your computer, ZIP the world folder.
  2. In the panel, stop the server.
  3. In Files, rename the old world folder to something like world-old, so you can go back to it.
  4. Upload the ZIP to the server’s main folder, open its menu and click Unarchive.
  5. Rename the unpacked folder to world. Check that level.dat is directly inside it: world/level.dat, not world/My World/level.dat.
  6. Start the server and watch the console for errors.

On Paper, Purpur and Leaf, the server moves the world’s Nether and End into their own folders on the first start. Delete the old world_nether and world_the_end folders before that start if you want the uploaded world’s Nether and End.

For a big world, upload the folder over SFTP instead of a ZIP.

  1. Stop the server, so the files don’t change while you copy them.
  2. In Files, open the menu on the world folder and click Archive.
  3. Download the archive the panel creates.

You can also download a whole backup.

  1. Stop the server.
  2. In Files, rename or delete the world, world_nether and world_the_end folders.
  3. To pick a seed, open server.properties and set level-seed. Leave it empty for a random seed.
  4. Start the server. It generates a new world.
