Ask Byte, the AI assistant

Byte is the AI assistant built into the panel. It can look at your server the way you would, and change things when you allow it. Byte runs on Anthropic’s Claude.

Open your server and click Help in the sidebar.

  • Check whether the server is running, how much RAM, CPU and disk it uses, who’s online and where it is in the start queue.
  • Read the console log and find out why the server crashed.
  • Read, create, edit, rename and delete files, such as plugin configs and server.properties.
  • Search Modrinth and install plugins or mods.
  • Download files from Modrinth, GitHub releases, Hangar and PaperMC links, and extract or create zips. For other links, upload the file in Files and Byte carries on from there.
  • Run console commands, and start, stop or restart the server.
  • Create, list and restore backups.
  • Make a zip on the server your resource pack, turn private mode on or off, and create schedules (a restart every 6 hours, a daily backup).
  • Switch the server’s software or Minecraft version. Only the server owner can do this, and private mode.
  • Search the web for an error message or a plugin’s documentation.

Try one of the suggested prompts, or ask in your own words, for example:

  • “Install EssentialsX and set it up with sensible defaults.”
  • “My server keeps crashing, can you check the logs and find out why?”
  • “Turn off the Nether and set the difficulty to hard.”
  • “I uploaded my map as a zip. Set it up as the world.”

Byte asks before it changes anything. When it wants to edit a file or run a command, the chat shows Your permission is needed with what it’s about to do:

  • Allow once runs this one action.
  • Always allow lets Byte do that kind of action (for example console commands) without asking again in this conversation.
  • Allow all tools in this chat lets Byte act without asking again in this conversation.
  • Deny stops it. Send another message to tell Byte what you want instead.

Restoring a backup and switching software show a red card, because they replace the server’s files.

Each account gets 50,000 response tokens a week, shared across all your servers. Only what Byte writes counts: its replies and the details of the actions it takes. Your own messages and Byte’s thinking don’t. The allowance resets every Monday at 00:00 UTC.

Weekly usage at the top of the chat shows what’s left. When it runs out, click Add tokens to buy 50,000 more for 50 credits, or wait for the reset.

Byte keeps your conversations. Open Conversations to go back to one or search them, and click New conversation to start fresh.

  • On the console, select an error and click Ask AI for a short explanation, or Ask Byte to fix it to hand it to Byte. See use the console.
  • When a server stops on its own, the Why did it stop? card explains the crash. See my server won’t start.
